As you have (hopefully) guessed by reading this page, PidgiWiki is currently targeted to English-speaking audiences. While no other languages have been announced, the MediaWiki software has a built-in language switcher accessible via [[Special:Preferences|the preferences page]]. However, the default language is currently English, meaning that files must be named in English. For images with other language texts, put the two-letter language code at the very end of the image, i.e. <code>Black logo FR</code>. The language codes to be used are ISO 639-1 codes, listed [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ISO_639-1_codes here].

If there are two versions of a piece of artwork, add "alt" to the end of the name, i.e. "Venusaur alt - FireRed and LeafGreen". If there are multiple alternate versions, add "alt #" to the end. Instead of using "alt 1", however, just use "alt". Use a similar naming for beta artwork - "Ditto beta - Red and Green".

As evidenced by the spelling in the title, the naming of Forms or Formes have been debated throughout the fandom, with criteria for each name still under scrutiny. To avoid any of this fighting here, PidgiWiki will avoid using Form of Forme at all, with the form name being directly after the Pokémon name, i.e. <code>Shaymin Sky - Platinum</code>.

Logos should be named with the logo's content text with "logo" tacked on the end, i.e. <code>Mario Kart Wii logo.png</code>. For specific logos (beta logos, alternate logos), put this specification directly before "logo": <code>Ranger beta logo.jpg</code>.

Here at PidgiWiki, we want all files uploaded to be easily accessible to anyone who wants to access them. This accessibility means that we must categorize and name all files with the same patterns. This page will aid in naming any files uploaded.

General rules

There are a number of rules that must be put in place for general usage.

Parlez-vous français?

As you have (hopefully) guessed by reading this page, PidgiWiki is currently targeted to English-speaking audiences. While no other languages have been announced, the MediaWiki software has a built-in language switcher accessible via the preferences page. However, the default language is currently English, meaning that files must be named in English. For images with other language texts, put the two-letter language code at the end of the name, i.e. Logo FR - Black for the French logo of Pokémon Black Version. The language codes to be used are ISO 639-1 codes, listed here.

Alternate or beta artwork

If there are two versions of a piece of artwork, add "(alt)" to the end of the name, i.e. "Venusaur (alt) - FireRed and LeafGreen". If there are multiple alternate versions, add "(alt #)" to the end. Instead of using "(alt 1)", however, just use "(alt)". Use a similar naming for artwork with specific alternate versions, such as "Ditto (beta) - Red and Green".

Artwork

For the majority of artwork, name files as Character - Game/Movie/Set/Issue name, i.e. Latias - Ranger 3 or Pikachu - Battle Revolution. If no game is available, use the artist.

Form/Forme artwork

As evidenced by the spelling in the title, the naming of Forms or Formes have been debated throughout the fandom, with criteria for each name still under scrutiny. To avoid any of this fighting here, PidgiWiki will avoid using Form of Forme at all, with the form name being directly after the Pokémon name, i.e. Shaymin Sky - Platinum.

TCG cards

TCG cards are to be named in the SetCode CardNo. LanguageCode, i.e. HGSS4 26 FR.jpg. Set codes are formatted per TPCi guidelines, with the series code (EX, DP, PL, HGSS, COL, BW) followed by the set number. Currently, no guidelines are set for cards released prior to EX Ruby & Sapphire; we'll get over that bridge when we reach it.

Screenshots

Screenshots are to be named as such; ScreenshotName screenshot - Game/AnimeSeries name, i.e. Menu Modern Sonic screenshot - Sonic Generations.jpg. If no official screenshot name exists, give a short description of its contents.
