Was there something wrong with it?—★Pika3323 20:37, 7 May 2011 (CDT)

First, I asked you to ask me before changing layout stuff. Second, I'm working on an announcement right now, and want the feature to reflect current main content.--immewnitythemew 20:42, 7 May 2011 (CDT)
Oh yeah, that....—★Pika3323 20:45, 7 May 2011 (CDT)
Sorry about those files, I converted them before the server was fixed, and forgot to change it.—★Pika3323 08:39, 8 May 2011 (CDT)
It's okay. :P--immewnitythemew 08:40, 8 May 2011 (CDT)

I'll take Mario.

Saw the article on PidgiPress.. I'd love to be head of all the mario news :D -- samm :) talk to me 10:10, 8 May 2011 (CDT)

Done.—★Pika3323 10:49, 8 May 2011 (CDT)
Well, almost. I did the paperwork for it.—★Pika3323 10:53, 8 May 2011 (CDT)
I need you to create a PidgiPress account first. Look under Site Tools for more info.--immewnitythemew 12:23, 8 May 2011 (CDT)
By the way.. I've done some searching and cannot find the artist behind Mario's art.. so Is it OK if just like Category:Ken Sugimori artwork I use Category:Mario artwork ?? So it's definately OK to upload Mario artwork? It's gonna take some time, there's obviously a lot to get through :P -- samm :) talk to me 12:52, 12 May 2011 (CDT)
a lot of our artwork doesn't have a mentioned artist. If the artist is unknown than no category mentioning "artwork" is used. Instead the game's category is used, and the series' category too. Yes, it's OK to upload that stuff.—★Pika3323 13:51, 12 May 2011 (CDT)
I have a list of artists. I just don't know who did what.--immewnitythemew 18:54, 12 May 2011 (CDT)

Remember those vectors???

I can start uploading them now, right?—★Pika3323 14:14, 12 May 2011 (CDT)

Mhm. I'm still working on getting thumbnails to work, though.--immewnitythemew 18:54, 12 May 2011 (CDT)
Also, for 3DS screen shots, do I crop out the "2D screenshot of a 3D game"?—★Pika3323 14:23, 12 May 2011 (CDT)
If you want. Just remember that 3DS screenshots are to ALWAYS be uploaded as PNGs, no exceptions (so far).--immewnitythemew 18:54, 12 May 2011 (CDT)
Why png only? What about that Solatorobo thing, worth keeping?—★Pika3323 19:58, 12 May 2011 (CDT)
Because right now, all of them are pixel-for-pixel versions. As for Solatorobo... delete it.--immewnitythemew 20:10, 12 May 2011 (CDT)
Any special naming for screenshots?—★Pika3323 05:05, 13 May 2011 (CDT)

Take your journey to libsvg.dll, that may be the problem.—★Pika3323 05:15, 13 May 2011 (CDT)
Already tried. Something's messed up with our version of librsvg.--immewnitythemew 06:18, 13 May 2011 (CDT)
Would an update to mediawiki and other thingys help it?—★Pika3323 06:23, 13 May 2011 (CDT)
It'd harm it if anything.--immewnitythemew 15:47, 13 May 2011 (CDT)
Then what will you do? Re-Download mediawiki and replace the faulty file?—★Pika3323 06:36, 14 May 2011 (CDT)
It's not MediaWiki, it's the converter.--immewnitythemew 06:46, 14 May 2011 (CDT)
MediaWiki doesn't come with the converter?—★Pika3323 06:55, 14 May 2011 (CDT)
Nope. That's why Bulbagarden Archives doesn't support SVGs.--immewnitythemew 06:56, 14 May 2011 (CDT)
Then where does it come from?—★Pika3323 06:59, 14 May 2011 (CDT)
We have to use a converter; I've tried rsvg, ImageMagick, and Inkscape, and no luck so far.--immewnitythemew 07:03, 14 May 2011 (CDT)
So where does the converter come from? Can't you replace it?—★Pika3323 07:05, 14 May 2011 (CDT)
It comes from the Internet, and yes; I've tried three different ones to no avail.--immewnitythemew 07:09, 14 May 2011 (CDT)
Use Twitter to find someone to help, again!—★Pika3323 07:13, 14 May 2011 (CDT)

It's missing from Monobook, too. Lemme find the old code.--immewnitythemew 19:45, 22 May 2011 (CDT)
Is this (the bottom of the section) supposed to be still there?—★Pika3323 19:58, 22 May 2011 (CDT)
It all depends on administration.--immewnitythemew 19:59, 22 May 2011 (CDT)
Back to art.... Move is a little to the left, and remove the border, it's ugly.—★Pika3323 20:01, 22 May 2011 (CDT)
Hm?--immewnitythemew 20:09, 22 May 2011 (CDT)
In Vector, there's a 1px border, and it's up against the right edge, which doesn't look nice.—★Pika3323 20:10, 22 May 2011 (CDT)
Clear your cache, and all will be right.--immewnitythemew 20:13, 22 May 2011 (CDT)
Just to nag you more. The vector colour should a bit be darker. =P—★Pika3323 17:06, 24 May 2011 (CDT)
Grrg. Later.--immewnitythemew 18:31, 24 May 2011 (CDT)
1. ONLY VECTOR. 2. Really! It would look nicer.—★Pika3323 19:26, 24 May 2011 (CDT)

SVG cropping

How do I do that?—★Pika3323 06:41, 23 May 2011 (CDT)

In Inkscape. Draw a square around the area you want visible. CTRL+A. OBJECT>CLIP>SET. FILE>DOCUMENT PROPERTIES> FIT PAGE TO SELECTION.--immewnitythemew 16:16, 23 May 2011 (CDT)

Template:Border-Radius

Trainers

You put us out of buisness now, the only thing we (commonly) [or] (are allowed to) do that they don't is block people.—★Pika3323 13:59, 6 June 2011 (CDT)

Oh trust me, there's quite a difference.--immewnitythemew 14:00, 6 June 2011 (CDT)
I can't because you won't let me:
Edit Interwiki data
I don't because it's not needed:
Batch delete pages
Edit other users' CSS files
Edit other users' JavaScript files
Import pages from other wikis
Mark others' edits as patrolled
What we both do:
Change protection levels and edit protected pages
Delete pages
Move files
Move pages
Overwrite existing files
Upload files from a URL
View deleted history entries, without their associated text
The rest is just stuff. Also, Interwiki for da E3DB.—★Pika3323 14:10, 6 June 2011 (CDT)
Feel free to edit Interwiki stuff. MediaWiki stuff I don't want you to edit. Also, there is a hierarchy system; administrators will always have a higher say over Trainers. Not to mention that Trainers are still being worked out.--immewnitythemew 14:14, 6 June 2011 (CDT)

Now then...

...about that categorization page?—★Pika3323 15:55, 6 June 2011 (CDT)

Categorization of Categories

I started categorizing categories in their respective series. Anything related to Pokémon on Pokémon, anything related to Zelda on Zelda, and so on. But I just thought of the possibility of doing wrong on this, hence I ask if I should continue on this without any specific direction. Also, am I free to change a few category names? For example, simply "Anime" for Pokémon anime artwork is quite misleading. And by chance, are there any other things I could do for the categories? For example, should I put content in them -- so that they will not be non-existing articles anymore? If so, I guess I can follow the style of already existing category articles, right?

Just a check-in, in order to not cause any unnecessary work. :P Ash Pokemaster 05:12, 13 July 2011 (CDT)

If you're creating a pokemon category, crate it as such: The following are artwork of .

Like that. It will automaticaly change to the pokemon's name. Also Zelda is The Legend of Zelda. But you can redirect if you want.—★Pika3323 06:01, 13 July 2011 (CDT)

PidgiWiki:Categorization—★Pika3323 06:05, 13 July 2011 (CDT)
Basically, it all comes down to me having a flawed categorization system to begin with. I have not changed much in how I categorized, and that's an issue. Ideally, images should be categorized with the game it is from, the series it is from, who it is... etc. Categorize everything you possibly can for an image, and I'll check and make sure that all is good. Eventually, I'll come up with a template, but that'll be once categories are established.
As for the anime thing, use Category:Anime for any anime, Pokemon or not. This is where the series category would come in handy. By using Special:MultiCategorySearch, you can input Anime and Sonic, for example, and get Sonic anime images.
Also, as you mentioned, Pika3323, some of the names can be easily disputed. So let's get on a consensus here. Pokémon. The Legend of Zelda. Kirby. Super Monkey Ball. Sonic. Mario. Sound good?--immewnitythemew 07:54, 13 July 2011 (CDT)
Oh and BTW Mario = Series, and character = Confusion.—★Pika3323 08:46, 13 July 2011 (CDT)
Ah crud. Then, let's make the series Super Mario Bros.. Sonic will then be Sonic the Hedgehog, and Kirby... what should Kirby be? Kirby Kirby Kirby? :D--immewnitythemew 09:02, 13 July 2011 (CDT)

New, non-Pokémon Affiliate

I just wanted to know if you'd like a new, non-Pokémon affiliate. The Zeldathon Network is a Zelda community website that, in addition to 24/7 gaming streaming, has frequent charity marathons that have been wildly popular, and we'd love to be able to work with you! Let me know as soon as you can :)! --JB2448 17:16, 13 July 2011 (CDT)

Currently, I will have to decline. I will talk it over with the appropriate staff members, and then we will consider affiliation.--immewnitythemew 19:36, 13 July 2011 (CDT)

A few questions...

Hey immewnity, I have a few questions regarding lots of different things. First, we want card scans, yes? Where do we get them from? I know of a few sites (not Pokebeach) that have quite good ones, but is it okay to use their scans? I know some sites have issues with that, but in the end, no site actually owns those card scans, so it should be alright to 'borrow' scans from other sites, shouldn't it? Also, wouldn't it be better to upload png's for artwork instead of jpg's (we've got Bulbapedia and GTSPlus.net, but then you've got the "stealing" issue again, so I'm not sure.) One last thing, what do you want me to write for non-Pokemon categories? And... that's it (I think) ~たかはりい 01:54, 28 September 2011 (PDT)

1) No card scans. Stock images yes. Eventually, yes to scans, but... you'll see later this year/early next year.
2) Only if it originated as a PNG or a PSD. We aren't adding transparency or removing transparency for anything. No file type changing unless absolutely necessary.
3) Uh... whatever you want. :P Try sticking to basically what's on the other ones, but you can change it up. As long as it makes sense, it's good.--immewnitythemew 04:04, 28 September 2011 (PDT)
Basically, for question 2, give me an example.--immewnitythemew 04:06, 28 September 2011 (PDT)
Bulbapedia has their own things with artwork, they don't give a damn whether it was a cheap background removal.—★Pika3323 11:54, 28 September 2011 (PDT)
Exactly. They create transparency to fit their needs wants.--immewnitythemew 18:46, 28 September 2011 (PDT)

About the powers...

90% chance I don't do anything until at least November. =P —★Pika3323 16:43, 5 October 2011 (PDT)

Sorry for the wicked late response. I'm going to use MediaWiki. --Triphoria 19:34, 23 December 2011 (PST)

Delete my talkpage

Hello, I am worried about a user stalking me from wiki to wiki trying to request check users to find out my IP Address. You can help by:

  1. Deleting my talkpage
  2. Not giving check users to a user requesting me
  3. Blocking the user requesting it (which is kind of overkill)

At least delete my talk... --Triphoria 08:09, 28 January 2012 (PST)

Deleting your talk page wouldn't help in this situation. All that is there is a welcome template. As for the check user thing, I'm the only check user on this site, and I will never give a user's IP away unless law enforcement comes to my place of residence and makes me. And of course I'd block them, as it's inappropriate conduct.--immewnitythemew 13:48, 28 January 2012 (PST)

Images

You have uploaded some amazing high-resolution images! Thanks for sharing! If I may ask, where do you get them mostly...a press vault, etc.,? If you are interested in anything I may have, let me know. :) 10:55, 20 June 2012 (PDT)

Hi, thanks for the compliment! Most of the images are from Nintendo press vaults: America, Australia, UK, France, Belgium, and even the Czech Republic. In addition, I have access to many other company press vaults (EA, Ubisoft, Capcom, SEGA, THQ, Square-Enix, etc.), but haven't gotten to uploading anything yet (in fact, I just got access to another one today). I've got a lot more set to upload as well. Looking from what you've uploaded on MarioWiki, it seems you've been collecting art from around the web as well! Feel free to upload any applicable artwork here; we're aiming for a complete artwork database for all games on Nintendo systems (though right now, there's more of a focus on first party and major third party games). Thanks again!--immewnitythemew 11:07, 20 June 2012 (PDT)

I also have access to Capcom and Nintendo, but that's about it! I don't know if I have anything you'd be interested in, but I've got a lot of old school art that you just don't see anymore. Can you be my new special friend (ha!)? Icysugarspike 11:21, 20 June 2012 (PDT)

Hahaha, sounds cool! Please, upload that art! We're open to anything Nintendo, and most of the press sites don't go back too far (still looking for some Pokémon art from 2004/2005 that didn't get archived). I'll bump you up to Trainer class, so that if you need to, you can rename files. And hey, if you work your way up to staff, those press site logins will be available to you. :P I'm assuming the Nintendo one you have access to is NoA ( http://press.nintendo.com/ ) and the Capcom one is Capcom USA ( http://press.capcom.com/ )? Could be Capcom Europe, though ( http://capcomeuro-press.com/ ).--immewnitythemew 11:35, 20 June 2012 (PDT)

You're right about Capcom Europe, but it's the British Nintendo site, though. Icysugarspike 11:38, 20 June 2012 (PDT)

Ah, okay, the Assets Library? They have so much more than NoA; you're not missing much at all. (though NoA's isn't a personal one, and is freely given out, so Username: guest Password: nintendo)--immewnitythemew 11:40, 20 June 2012 (PDT)

Thanks! I was under the impression this was a Pokemon media site. Mainly instead, all Nintendo, huh? Icysugarspike 12:41, 20 June 2012 (PDT)

Yup, anything Nintendo! It started off as just Pokémon, but it's since evolved into all Nintendo, and later maybe all video games. Also, were these Stadium images from http://www.rpgamer.com/games/pokemon/pokestad/pokestadart.html ? Quick Google search found that. If so, would you mind if I upload the originals from there?

Also, if you don't mind, I'd rather not have that manga picture on here; I'll upload it elsewhere on the server, though, so you can still have it on your userpage.--immewnitythemew 17:24, 20 June 2012 (PDT)

I'm rather intimidated now to upload anything. The standards here are quite high. Please, let me know how I can help, and sorry about the manga image. Yes, the Stadium images were probably taken from that site years ago, and have been decomposing on my hard drive for years. Icysugarspike 18:24, 20 June 2012 (PDT)

Hahaha, nah, continue uploading! The only thing is that we strive to get the highest quality available, so the closer to the original image as possible, the better. For example, if there was to be an image taken from Nintendo's press site on Flickr, the one from the press site would be the one to upload, as compression, resizing, and image corruption could occur. Really, upload everything you can, and if a better version can be found, it'll be uploaded.
Moreover, if the original (or closest to it) is a JPG, and someone takes that and saves it as a PNG, it doesn't change quality, but it does increase file size. Thus, it makes more sense to upload the JPG, as it's the same quality for less file size; the server can only take so much!
As far as the manga image goes, it seems to be more of a user image (i.e. for use on a userpage), and currently I haven't been able to exclude those from the total file count. I've uploaded it to the images subdomain, and I've added it to your userpage. Sorry for any discomfort and confusion!--immewnitythemew 18:56, 20 June 2012 (PDT)
Er, I'll actually keep those Stadium files as-is; I nearly forgot that the server has unlimited space! Good thing, too, with how much is yet to be uploaded!--immewnitythemew 19:06, 20 June 2012 (PDT)

How refreshing it is to find someone nice and understanding on the internet! I'll see to it that I don't step on your toes too much! ;) Icysugarspike 19:52, 20 June 2012 (PDT)

Yeah, we're all pretty welcoming here! Treat yourselves to some refreshments over on the... oh wait, Internet, I forgot. Virtual cupcakes and donuts haven't been invented.
Yet.
--immewnitythemew 19:58, 20 June 2012 (PDT)

I'm not quite sure how you're going to give me a press site log in if I make it up to staff. I'm guessing it's in the form of a username/password, but that Square Enix one does sound mighty nice! I've been feverishly uploading stuff (please be kind, not all the images are knock-your-socks-off quality, but there were all I could find) and am hoping I'm working my way up to staff. The images you've shared are top notch, and I'd like to return the favor. Icysugarspike 08:25, 21 June 2012 (PDT)

I... I don't even know what to say! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! I've been lacking in uploading a lot, and you've covered far past anything I would have been able to find. This is absolutely amazing. In fact... look at recent changes (and shoot me an email!)!--immewnitythemew 08:46, 21 June 2012 (PDT)
May make more sense if I put my email: [email protected] --immewnitythemew 08:47, 21 June 2012 (PDT)

Done (and you're very welcome). Just curious. Have hi-res images of the Great Ball and the Master Ball? Can you upload them? They're the only two major ones you're missing. Icysugarspike 09:14, 21 June 2012 (PDT) Administrator rights? Aw, shucks! Thanks. Icysugarspike 09:18, 21 June 2012 (PDT) If I'm not here, I'm usually over here. Icysugarspike 09:34, 21 June 2012 (PDT)

Nothing at all for Great Ball, and Master Ball, well, it's not amazing, but... *uploaded* --immewnitythemew 09:52, 21 June 2012 (PDT)

Sorry to bother you. Was wondering if, time permitting, you could upload remaining Diamond/Pearl character art (hi-res, of course)? Even Bulbapedia doesn't have any large images (trainers, gym leaders, some of the more obscure Pokemon, etc.). I haven't been able to find any myself. Icysugarspike 09:32, 22 June 2012 (PDT)

I think I uploaded everything I got. Most of the uncommon ones came from the Australian press site.--immewnitythemew 20:21, 22 June 2012 (PDT)

I'll check the Australian one some more. Thanks for getting Fingers off the recent uploads. I really wanted it only on my user page, but didn't know how to get it off uploads without deleting it. Thanks! Question: must images be digital quality or can they be scanned (seeing as how a lot of the older ones I've got come from Japanese guide books, etc.)? Icysugarspike 04:29, 23 June 2012 (PDT)

Scanned versions are fine, though of course digital is preferred when possible.--immewnitythemew 05:46, 23 June 2012 (PDT)

MicroGroup Game Review?

What is this an image of? Unreleased Pokemon from around the time of the release of Gold/Silver? Nice find! Where do you get this stuff? Icysugarspike 07:59, 2 July 2012 (PDT)

Yeah. It's questioned whether these were to ever be Pokémon, or just creatures imagined by Sugimori for the cover. This I found by finding a smaller image of the cover, and a LOT of reverse image searching.--immewnitythemew 08:01, 2 July 2012 (PDT)

Ooh, please explain to me this foreign concept "reverse image searching" lol! What is it? Some trick of the trade? Perhaps, if you teach me, I can find some unusual stuff, too. I could write a book about the lengths I've gone to to find rare/obscure images...:) Icysugarspike 08:05, 2 July 2012 (PDT)

Reverse image searching is a really cool thing. So far, I've only found two sites that do it, but it's really nifty. Both Google Images and TinEye do reverse image searching. Basically, upload an image, and it will search for that image in other sizes. With Google Images, click "More Sizes" on an image in any regular search to do the same.--immewnitythemew 08:07, 2 July 2012 (PDT)

Google Images took an eternity to upload the small image I uploaded, to the point where I gave up. TinEye worked, but so far my images are the largest. Thanks, though, for sharing. :) Icysugarspike 08:32, 2 July 2012 (PDT)

Sometimes you'll have to fiddle around with them; neither are perfect. Google Images has a better database, and searches better IMO. Sometimes, a good page refresh fixes everything!--immewnitythemew 08:34, 2 July 2012 (PDT)

Too big

Can't upload this 21MB picture of Barrel Blast's cover art. Should I shrink it and try again? Icysugarspike 08:33, 3 July 2012 (PDT)

Save it as a JPG. At the resolution that's at, it probably won't matter that much.--immewnitythemew 09:39, 3 July 2012 (PDT)

Quick minor question

I know this might be a sensitive topic, but I was wondering where you got this image from. I was planning to use it for a project, and I was just curious. Thanks in advance. KarasuG 14:13, 3 July 2012 (PDT)

Hi! That image would be from the Arceus distribution from the 12th movie. The art was specifically from Pokemon.co.jp, but that site has since been redone. A smaller version of the image still exists at http://www.pokemon.co.jp/special/hgss/news/03.html .--immewnitythemew 14:29, 3 July 2012 (PDT)
So it is (technically) official art, then? KarasuG 14:30, 3 July 2012 (PDT)
It is official art. I do not believe it is drawn by Ken Sugimori, but it is official art nonetheless. If I were to guess who drew it, I would guess Yusuke Ohmura, but that's not for sure.--immewnitythemew 14:38, 3 July 2012 (PDT)
Perfect either way. Thanks again~ KarasuG 14:42, 3 July 2012 (PDT)
No prob! Any time.--immewnitythemew 14:43, 3 July 2012 (PDT)

Mario vs. DK Japan?

Do you have a nice image of the Japanese box for Mario vs. DK? Mine is bleh, unfortunately. Icysugarspike 16:04, 3 July 2012 (PDT)

Don't have one onhand, but I'll search and see.--immewnitythemew 16:12, 3 July 2012 (PDT)
Here's the best I can find, sadly: 1526.jpg --immewnitythemew 16:14, 3 July 2012 (PDT)

BTW, I'm sorry you have to re-name all the files I'm uploading. I'll try to upload them named that way to make things easier for you, but that means everything on my hard drive has to be redone. :( Icysugarspike 16:18, 3 July 2012 (PDT)

That's okay, I've been going through all files and renaming them if needed, even ones that I've uploaded. Really, all these are helping. Naming is a pain, and I'm finding different rules to put in the naming conventions page (exceptions to the norm that have to be accounted for).--immewnitythemew 16:23, 3 July 2012 (PDT)

Okay, no problem. I just want to get done uploading DK shit, so I can take a break. Almost done, I think. Icysugarspike 07:25, 5 July 2012 (PDT)

Alright. If this is useful for now, you can name files before uploading them, send me a ZIP file containing any files you want to upload, and then I can have the importImages.php script upload them for you. It'd still count as you uploading them, but it would save a heck of a lot of time. I just remembered about this script yesterday, so sorry about the late notice!--immewnitythemew 07:29, 5 July 2012 (PDT)

Old School artwork

Just in case you're wondering, most of the old Mario Bros. stuff came from here. The site is not running properly anymore, though, obviously. Icysugarspike (talk) 13:04, 5 July 2012 (PDT)

Alright, cool. I was in touch with the admins there for some FireRed and LeafGreen art a while ago; it's a shame that so many defunct links exist.--immewnitythemew 13:12, 5 July 2012 (PDT)

I remember years ago discovering it and realizing that all this artwork from the early days of video games was all official! Sniff. Somebody should archive this site... Icysugarspike (talk) 13:15, 5 July 2012 (PDT)

"This site" referring to VGAA or PidgiWiki? If PidgiWiki, I've been archiving it personally. In fact, it's probably time for another archive.--immewnitythemew 13:17, 5 July 2012 (PDT)

Hee-hee. I meant VGAA. This site definitely is going to have something special going for it. ;) Icysugarspike (talk) 13:26, 5 July 2012 (PDT)

Hahahaha, you might be able to find a backup somewhere. The files aren't lost, as the last time I talked to Andrew Wolan, the owner of EmulationZone, he said he wanted to restart VGAA. In addition, although the pieces of art I was trying to find were dead links, he was able to send them to be. All hope isn't lost! lol--immewnitythemew 14:32, 5 July 2012 (PDT)

I'm sure his life has probably moved on in the years since (2006?), but did you tell him to drop by? :) Icysugarspike (talk) 14:35, 5 July 2012 (PDT)

BTW, which Birdo do you prefer - orange or traditional pink? Icysugarspike (talk) 14:35, 5 July 2012 (PDT)

I linked the site to him then (though this was just in April of 2011). As far as Birdo goes, well, I'm kinda confused. They both look official, but orange seems off. Then again, who would even think about recoloring it orange? Time to look through guidebooks.--immewnitythemew 14:43, 5 July 2012 (PDT)

"Time to look through guidebooks"...and scan them. C'mon, let's see some more good stuff! I'm thinking about investing in some old Mario guide books myself (perhaps one with lots of Lost Levels artwork). If you're interested, I buy my books from Jap-sai (new books are here). Icysugarspike (talk) 14:58, 5 July 2012 (PDT)
I don't have any NES guide books; the farthest back I have is GameBoy Advance.--immewnitythemew 15:01, 5 July 2012 (PDT)

Red and Blue

I think these artworks are probably from TCG. Are they not the same versions as Red and Blue? Icysugarspike (talk) 16:37, 12 July 2012 (PDT)

Red and Blue are unsure, I need to find the guide book. TBH, I think they're from Yellow, as I don't see why Ken Sugimori would draw all new art for English releases. It's not TCG art, as some of these renders are too good to be from card scans.--immewnitythemew 16:38, 12 July 2012 (PDT)
No, I meant I think they are scanned from the Pokemon the Trading Card Game (Game Boy game) Official Nintendo Player's Guide. BTW, where are you getting the Red and Green art from? Small though they are, they're great! Icysugarspike (talk) 16:48, 12 July 2012 (PDT)
Huh, I never even thought about that. I'll take a look and see where the earliest instances are. As for the Red and Green art, they were from some Spanish site, but I can't find the original anymore. I still have them downloaded. The rest are from whatever this other set is, so I'll wait for you to finish so I can see what's needed.--immewnitythemew 17:06, 12 July 2012 (PDT)
Oh, then this make things even more confusing: 151.png --immewnitythemew 17:09, 12 July 2012 (PDT)
Whoops, took a little break. I have three boys...:) - :(
Anyway, I'll upload the rest just to get it over with (and I still have to clean up Articuno and Mewtwo)...and DONE! Icysugarspike (talk) 19:08, 12 July 2012 (PDT)
You don't have to clean up anything; upload as raw of an image as you can. Reason being is that cleaning up images can accidentally remove things, even just small artifacts, so the closer to the original, the better.--immewnitythemew 19:32, 12 July 2012 (PDT)
What I mean is, the backgrounds have to be removed... (I do them by hand, sometimes pixel-by-pixel, as opposed to cookie-cutting them out on Photoshop). Icysugarspike (talk) 19:36, 12 July 2012 (PDT)
You're up bright and early! (I guess...I don't know what time zone you're in.) Icysugarspike (talk) 07:23, 13 July 2012 (PDT)
I'm in Central US time zone, so it's really not that early for me (9:30am right now).--immewnitythemew 07:35, 13 July 2012 (PDT)
You're an hour into my future. Well, that explains everything! ;) Icysugarspike (talk) 07:37, 13 July 2012 (PDT)
Whoops. Actually, I'm further. It's 10:30 on my clock. Icysugarspike (talk) 07:38, 13 July 2012 (PDT)
lol, for me, even 6:30 isn't early!--immewnitythemew 07:47, 13 July 2012 (PDT)

Kid Icarus

I've got some Kid Icarus know-how. I'll try to help if I see something amiss. Icysugarspike (talk) 07:45, 13 July 2012 (PDT)

Alright, thank you!--immewnitythemew 07:47, 13 July 2012 (PDT)
Need some help renaming the Twinbellows file. BTW, I've got artwork from the original game. I can put it all up now, or should I just wait until I can re-scan stuff from the manual at higher resolution? Icysugarspike (talk) 08:05, 13 July 2012 (PDT)
To rename a file, go to the tabs on top of the page, go over the little arrow next to View history, and click Move. As far as the Kid Icarus art, whichever you'd like. If you want to do it now, you can always use the "Upload a new version of this file" feature.--immewnitythemew 08:07, 13 July 2012 (PDT)

StarTropics scans

I'm a bit unhappy that quite a few of these are so small, so I just ordered the old Nintendo Power issues on Amazon. Question: do you have any really old issues? Icysugarspike (talk) 10:17, 13 July 2012 (PDT)

Oldest issue I have is from E3 2004.--immewnitythemew 10:24, 13 July 2012 (PDT)

I'm guessing I'm a bit older than you. :( Quite a bit, probably, lol. We don't have to say ages, but let's just say I've got some gray hairs and I'm old enough to remember the Atari 2600...(eek!) Icysugarspike (talk) 10:34, 13 July 2012 (PDT)

Pfft, there's an Atari 2600 lying around here somewhere... but no, I wasn't alive when that came out. Neither was I for the Super NES or the original GameBoy. I was born around Pokémon's Japanese release, so I'm definitely far younger. :P (Though, I didn't start getting Nintendo Power until much later, of course. I wish my parents started a Nintendo Power subscription for me then!)--immewnitythemew 10:54, 13 July 2012 (PDT)
Most people my age have given up on the videogames of their youth, but there's a few of us left out there. :) Icysugarspike (talk) 10:58, 13 July 2012 (PDT)
Hate (for deleting DD scans) is a strong word to use so playfully. I am still a new crew member here. I'm not a dog with territorial pissings. I respect your right to do what you want, and what you're doing is for a good reason. Anywaaaay...on a lighter note, BOOYA! ;) Icysugarspike (talk) 07:52, 14 July 2012 (PDT)
Now just to find out why this image isn't generating thumbnails...--immewnitythemew 08:12, 14 July 2012 (PDT)

FireRed and LeafGreen

Went through (first part of) what's missing. Got FR/LG Aerodactyl, Arbok, Bellsprout, Chansey, Cubone, and Dragonair? Icysugarspike (talk) 12:43, 14 July 2012 (PDT)

At about 350 pixels is the best I got.--immewnitythemew 17:00, 14 July 2012 (PDT)
:( Thanks, TTYS. Icysugarspike (talk) 18:37, 14 July 2012 (PDT)

Funny stuff

Snagged here (and slightly altered).

162bg47qz-t.jpg
Going to assume they had some copyright issues and had to take them down.
Or they just felt like messing around with people.--immewnitythemew 20:35, 16 July 2012 (PDT)

Suggestions

Have some more free time today. Any suggestions on what Nintendo images we could use on here? Icysugarspike (talk) 09:03, 17 July 2012 (PDT)

I haven't finished uploading some Zelda stuff. You feel like doing Twilight Princess? I think I got about halfway in uploading stuff from the UK press site. I don't believe I uploaded anything from the other press sites, though.--immewnitythemew 09:14, 17 July 2012 (PDT)
Bleh, not really. How about some Legendary Starfy instead? BTW, check out this Pokefanart. Japanese, of course. Icysugarspike (talk) 09:36, 17 July 2012 (PDT)
Starfy your heart out.--immewnitythemew 10:08, 17 July 2012 (PDT)

MW 1.19

Welcome template seems to be broken in a way. Centering isn't working, even with a <div> tag.—★Pika3323 11:51, 17 July 2012 (PDT)

I saw the centering issues, but I can't seem to figure out what's the problem. I was able to center another way, though.--immewnitythemew 13:30, 17 July 2012 (PDT)

Stafy, not Starfy

Hi, I know you probably thought that was a spelling error on my part, but I purposely put the Japanese name (which is Stafy). When you google it, it comes up that way, if you don't believe me. Icysugarspike (talk) 09:33, 19 July 2012 (PDT)

I'm aware of the differences, but Stafy or Starfy is a romanization difference. For example, most Legendary Pokémon share the same name internationally, but some are romanized differently in Japanese. For example, Cresselia is "Crecelia" in Japan. There are other examples, too.--immewnitythemew 10:46, 19 July 2012 (PDT)

TCG Art

True, I could've shot you a message first, but I figured I'd upload them to see where your stance was on these things. That's why I didn't upload a flood of them, only six. I love a lot of the art on the cards, and I see an artbook in the forseeable future. Probably not till something crazy like 2020 or something (or only in Japan)... Anyhoo, nows I knows....:) Icysugarspike (talk) 08:25, 20 July 2012 (PDT)

Yeah, those will be more useful on the new TCG site, but I definitely want to put them here at some point.--immewnitythemew 13:22, 20 July 2012 (PDT)
*gasp!* —★Pika3323 18:24, 20 July 2012 (PDT)
That's probably sacrilegious somehow, right? Icysugarspike (talk) 08:13, 21 July 2012 (PDT)
I am so confused at what unfolded above.--immewnitythemew 06:55, 22 July 2012 (PDT)
The gasp was about you revealing the WIP name, which in turn reveals a lot. —★Pika3323 11:30, 22 July 2012 (PDT)
...oh, crap. I thought I already revealed that. Welp. You saw nothing.--immewnitythemew 12:51, 22 July 2012 (PDT)
While not entirely necessary, being somewhat of a major contributor here, can you please shoot me an e-mail (time permitting) explaining what these plans are. I think I already know; I'd just like to be fully on board, if you know what I mean. Thanks. ;) Icysugarspike (talk) 03:10, 23 July 2012 (PDT)
Of course. To be honest, I thought I already told you! I'm losing my head. lol--immewnitythemew 06:29, 23 July 2012 (PDT)
Hey, just found this site. Nice scans, I think. Icysugarspike (talk) 10:14, 29 July 2012 (PDT)
Yeah, I've been using those for the new site. The guy who runs that site, Adam, also runs SixPrizes. I've helped with card scans from prereleases there, and might if he needs them this time, too, though I won't be able to go to one until Saturday.--immewnitythemew 10:15, 29 July 2012 (PDT)

D+P/R+S Art

Just wanted to say you've been doing an outstanding job locating what I know is incredibly hard-to-find stuff! I'm constantly impressed by what you come up with!! Icysugarspike (talk) 12:28, 29 July 2012 (PDT)

Google Images reverse search finds magical things, lemme tell ya!--immewnitythemew 12:34, 29 July 2012 (PDT)
Okay, where'd you find Darkrai? Reverse searching again? If you prefer not to give the answer here, e-mail me! Keep up the good work! Icysugarspike (talk) 10:28, 30 July 2012 (PDT)
Very proud of myself today. ;) Just picked myself up a refurbished DS Lite so I could transfer (via HG Pal Park) all my otherwise unobtainable Pokemon from my GBA games! So, uploading awe-inspiring images is not exactly a priority right now, ha! Talk to you soon. Icysugarspike (talk) 10:33, 30 July 2012 (PDT)
I'll send you an e-mail about Darkrai, but it's from Nintendo Europe (Germany)! And nice, enjoy Pal Park-ing!--immewnitythemew 12:33, 30 July 2012 (PDT)
There's also TinEye for reverse image searching. Icysugarspike (talk) 11:54, 19 August 2012 (PDT)
TinEye helps a little bit, but Google has a larger index.--immewnitythemew 14:31, 20 August 2012 (PDT)

HG/SS French cards?

Sorry to bother you again. Where did you find these (the ones you uploaded a while back)? Icysugarspike (talk) 13:24, 1 August 2012 (PDT)

The ones from Triumphant are from Pokémon.com (they made them small now), but the others are from our affiliation with PokéCardex. They have a partnership of sorts with Asmodée, the French distributor. I need to upload more, actually.--immewnitythemew 13:44, 1 August 2012 (PDT)
Nice cards, nice!! :) Icysugarspike (talk) 18:55, 1 August 2012 (PDT)

Dream World

Was just thinking about (not for the first time, either) how pretty satisfying it is. When you consider that you're only alloted no more than an hour per night and my Pokedex numbers over 400, there's always one to befriend that you're looking to add. Clever, I think. Probably not very satisfying for the truly obsessive, but what are your thoughts on Dream World? Icysugarspike (talk) 07:18, 2 August 2012 (PDT)

I don't use it too much. Only when there's a promotion do I really go on.--immewnitythemew 07:23, 2 August 2012 (PDT)

Check this out

Here. Be sure to click on the Neo Revelation joint artwork! Should these three images be uploaded? Icysugarspike (talk) 21:50, 2 August 2012 (PDT)

Yeah, probably. I want to figure out infobox first, though, as this would definitely need credit.--immewnitythemew 06:19, 3 August 2012 (PDT)

Did you decide if you're going to upload the Neo Revelation images? Icysugarspike (talk) 13:10, 8 August 2012 (PDT)

Once I get the new Infobox implemented, yes. The implementation should happen in the next few weeks.--immewnitythemew 15:43, 8 August 2012 (PDT)

Typing art

Interesting how they re-used the same art for Dream World. Icysugarspike (talk) 19:55, 18 August 2012 (PDT)

They didn't. The art style was used far before Dream World with Pokémon Center promotional materials. I'm probably going to categorize this style of art as "line art" or "generic art".--immewnitythemew 19:56, 18 August 2012 (PDT)
Mm, that makes sense. Icysugarspike (talk) 19:58, 18 August 2012 (PDT)

Holy---!

I almost lost my eyeballs when I saw what you uploaded!!! Nice! :) I'm guessing a lot of it is re-issued old art for Black and White 2? Icysugarspike (talk) 21:08, 20 August 2012 (PDT)

Yup!--immewnitythemew 04:28, 21 August 2012 (PDT)

My new project/bullshit hobby. I thought I should let you know since some stuff is uploaded here by you, and the rest is...well, help yourself, if you see something you like. Also, let me know if you want anything I posted removed. It's obviously a low-profile blog, so you probably won't care. Icysugarspike (talk) 10:57, 23 August 2012 (PDT)

Virizion

Sorry to get off the main focus of the wiki, but I picked up my Keldeo yesterday -I know you you got yours, am I right ;) - and am now faced with a slight problem maybe you could help me out with. The problem is: 1. I encountered Cobalion and accidentally made it faint, thereby banishing it from the game forever. 2. Next encountered Terrakion (no Virizion, naturally) and caught it. 3. Traded for a Japanese Cobalion on the GTS to replace the one I made faint. 4. Placed him in my party, searched for Virizion in Pinwheel Forest to no avail (I'm assuming it's pissed that I originally drove off Cobalion). 5. Now, I have Keldeo, but am missing a key member of the Musketeers to teach him Sacred Sword, and nobody is offering Virizion for a trade. I have absolutely no idea. I actually haven't been able to get to the distribution, and I really have no idea how any of the side events work. You'd probably be better off asking on Serebii Forums about this, or simply searching around Serebii.Net.--immewnitythemew 05:20, 28 August 2012 (PDT)

I know your main passion is the TCG, but just figured I'd ask. Thanks. Icysugarspike (talk) 05:28, 28 August 2012 (PDT)

I know the problem is solved and all... but doesn't beating the elite four again cause those pokemon to reappear?—★Pika3323 07:42, 28 August 2012 (PDT)
Hmm, possibly. Doubt it, though. Lots of questions (unanswered) surrounding the Musketeers... (Update: Virizion added, Keldeo taught Sacred Sword at Moor of Icirrus.) Icysugarspike (talk) 15:19, 28 August 2012 (PDT)

Two Latios/Latias images

Are either one of these two images from the 2010 (?) Mystery Gift promotion for HGSS? If not, what are they from? Heroes movie? Icysugarspike (talk) 06:59, 31 August 2012 (PDT)

They're from before that. I can't figure out what they're from, which is leading me to believing that it's fan art.--immewnitythemew 05:57, 1 September 2012 (PDT)
Bleh, sorry! Damn, fan art is getting GOOD (pixiv, etc.)! Anyhoo, thanks for clearing that up. Icysugarspike (talk) 07:13, 1 September 2012 (PDT)

Image advice

Hey Immewnity. I've got a few questions about images. What is the difference of lower case and upper case extensions? Like for example, the difference between .png and .PNG ? Also, do you know how to make an SVG image which works when uploaded on a MediaWiki site? All I wanted to do is convert some sprites to SVG format, so they don't go blurry when put in a gallery. Another user tried it, but the SVG didn't seem to work. Thanks for any help! --YoshiKong (talk) 14:19, 15 January 2013 (PST)

Converting sprites to svg doesn't go to well. Try re-sizing them in Paint.Net using Nearest Neighbour as one of the sttings.—★Pika3323 14:49, 15 January 2013 (PST)

We wanted to keep the actual image the original size, while still be able to make them larger on the article if necessary. I've heard that you can redraw sprites to SVG format, I don't think you can actually convert it straight up. --YoshiKong (talk) 16:39, 15 January 2013 (PST)

Double indenting to respond to both of you. Extension case has no difference in actual file type, but it registers as a different file in some MediaWiki stuff (i.e. switchers and stuff in templates won't register an image with the wrong casing). As far as SVGs on a MediaWiki site, it all depends on setup. MarioWiki uses a different setup than PidgiWiki, as it all depends on how things are converted. Since I gave up on getting librsvg to work, ImageMagick is used to thumbnail here. It's not perfect. There's no great way.
Sprites are interesting. They can and can't be converted to SVG. The thing is, sprites are bitmap files, so SVG conversion won't make anything better. Any SVG sprites that shall ever be uploaded to PidgiWiki, though, should be officially distributed vectors, like the sprite of Mario from Super Mario Bros. (NES, of course) that I have still yet to upload. Else, sprites should be bitmap. Do not enlarge the image using nearest neighbor, either, for one same reason: change in size. Vector files do not have a fixed size (default size is different, and that scales), and enlarged images are not the same dimensions either. Thus, upload all sprites in PNG format, at the original size.--immewnity (talk) 19:40, 15 January 2013 (PST)
Thanks for the reply. I have a suggestion for the uppercase/lowercase stuff. Maybe use this code on a template.

{{#switch:{}
|upperPNG=PNG
|lowerPNG=png
|upperJPEG=JPEG
|lowerJPEG=jpeg
|upperJPG=JPG
|lowerJPG=jpg
}}

And then use it like this for example;

It might work. Parser functions aren't my specialty. And thanks for the advice about SVG. I just have one more question, sorry to bother you. Does switching a file from JPEG to PNG and vice versa affect the quality at all? --YoshiKong (talk) 20:05, 15 January 2013 (PST)

Not a bother at all! While code like that might theoretically work for template usage, other stuff, like categorization, also depends. Lots of things in MediaWiki are case sensitive, so uppercase extensions just cause more hassle. I might be able to automatically change case using a bot, thinking about it.
Anyways, please keep to lowercase extensions. You can change it right on the upload form, too.
As far as JPEG and PNG, yes, there is a one-way quality change. JPEG is a lossy file format, which means that instead of being saved pixel for pixel, it gives a general region of color. PNG is a lossless format, meaning each pixel is its own. JPEG files are smaller due to not being as specific, but yes, PNG to JPEG causes quality loss. JPEG to PNG does not change quality, but there's not much of a point, as transparency should only be used if official transparency.--immewnity (talk) 20:13, 15 January 2013 (PST)

Thanks for the offer of becoming staff. I'm already an admin at the SMW, which is already a whole lot of responsibility. RE: Spoilers

Naming should be consistent throughout the whole site, and I don't think we should bend our guidelines just to suit certain types of games. The most accurate or recent name of a character should take the spot, and we can mention the alternative name on the info. I propose that we mention unmarked spoilers on PidgiWiki:About.

Wing Mario art

Hey there Immewnity. Out of curiosity, which press room provided your version of File:Wing Mario - Super Mario 64.png?

YoshiKong (talk · edits) 08:17, 28 March 2013 (PDT)

Still Nintendo France. You have to convert color spaces from CMYK to RGB. Else, it looks wonky.--immewnity (talk) 08:23, 28 March 2013 (PDT)
Oh I didn't know that. Do you know if GIMP can correctly convert them? Cause that's what I'm using at the moment.
YoshiKong (talk · edits) 08:24, 28 March 2013 (PDT)

Doesn't? Okay, I'll wait until I have access to Photoshop again. Though I did use GIMP for the Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story arts. But did they turn out alright, color-wise, do you think?

RE: Scans

Got it, thanks. I should have them uploaded sometime next week.

Also while I'm here, are you in need of 1999 Base 1st Edition/Unlimited Pokemon TCG images? I've got an almost complete collection at home, as well as a few 1999 Jungle TCG and The First Movie promotional Topps trading cards. Characters with the Same Name

Should anything different be done in the info template when a character shows up that shares a name with a character in another series, like Blue? Looking here there's no difference, but I wanted to check. -Sky (talk) 21:38, 4 August 2013 (PDT)

First of all, welcome to PidgiWiki! I'm thrilled that you're here; I really appreciate the help! I apologize for any site downtime that there will be over the next 24-48 hours - I'm upgrading the servers.
Anyways, with a new categorization system that will be fully implemented after the server upgrade, characters with the same name will automatically be separable by series.
Once again, thanks and welcome!--immewnity (talk) 21:44, 4 August 2013 (PDT)
Thanks for the welcome! I hope I'll be able so help out around here. And in that case, I guess I'll list the characters normally. -Sky (talk) 22:07, 4 August 2013 (PDT)

Naming Question

Hi again, I had a few more questions, this time about the Kluff and Klout images. First, for the character listing, those two enemies are always seen together in-game and are put together in the credits, so would they be considered one character in the char template? And second, they're technically named "Kuff 'n' Klout"--how would that name be used in the file name (just take the "L" out, replace "and" with "n", or something)? Thanks, -Sky (talk) 22:29, 5 August 2013 (PDT)

Name them together for everything - I'll fix the naming for you.--immewnity (talk) 08:07, 6 August 2013 (PDT)

Metadata

Hello Immewnity. I have a question about image metadata. I've located the Japanese SSB4 logo here, and I initially cropped/converted to PNG before uploading. Though, observing the metadata on the PNG, it shows when I saved it. The original unedited JPG image here has all the authentic metadata, which I'm sure is preferred. I'm not sure of the best thing to do :P

YoshiKong (talk · edits) 12:34, 5 September 2013 (UTC)

I'd go with using the uncropped JPG if we want to keep the metadata. I mean, we're not changing quality on the image in making it a PNG.--immewnity (talk) 18:44, 5 September 2013 (UTC)

Recent arts

Wow, where are those amazing GameCube-era artworks from?

YoshiKong (talk · edits) 12:55, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

hey

Whoa, it seems that I haven't been around here in ages. So hello! Long time, no chat. Anyway, I have a bunch of Pokémon wallpapers from Pokemon.com and PokemonRanger.com (from their fun zone, individual game sites, TCG sections etc). Now my question is this: Do we want them here: Yay or neigh? ~たかはりい 04:46, 10 October 2013 (UTC)~

It has been quite a long time! Great to see you back! Yes, wallpapers would be great. I haven't decided on naming structure for wallpapers, which is why there aren't very many on the site, but they are welcome. I'm in the same year of school as you are, so likewise, I'm highly busy. Because of this, Da braviary is essentially in charge of the site right now. He and I will be meeting over the weekend, so I'll try to remember to bring up naming for wallpapers.--immewnity (talk) 04:57, 10 October 2013 (UTC)
Awesome. Yeah, I just thought it would be nice having them all in one spot on one site (I had to scrape through every forgotten corner and finish every minigame of Pokemon.com to get them all haha). ~たかはりい 05:15, 10 October 2013 (UTC)
Hahaha, yeah, Pokemon.com does love to hide them! I may even have some downloaded from the old Pokemon.com somewhere on my external drive...--immewnity (talk) 13:15, 10 October 2013 (UTC)

Infobox

Hello. Would you agree with adding the capacity of multiple games to Template:Info, like we do with |system2= and so on? It would be applicable to files such as this one, where two games can be categorized.

YoshiKong (talk · edits) 11:15, 11 October 2013 (UTC)

Apologies for the very late response, but yes, that would be something that I'd like to add.--immewnity (talk) 12:03, 21 October 2013 (UTC)

Re: Character art

Unfortunately, I didn't manage to save many of the PSDs which haven't already been uploaded. But, did you notice all the new JPG renders they posted a few days ago? There were HQ renders which I have never seen anywhere before. I only saved a few before they were all taken down a day later. I was expecting them to keep them up permanently, if I had known I would have downloaded them all. These are all the ones which I managed to save:

The character pages are all still there, but they're just been emptied. Hopefully they are all put back up sometime soon. There were some amazing renders.

YoshiKong (talk · edits) 11:09, 19 November 2013 (UTC)

JPG = More metatdata?

Hey there: something I've been wondering for a while. Why do .jpg images usually carry the more extensive metatada information, such as dates of digitalizing and unique document IDs? Almost all PNGs, including ones exported from the original PSDs don't carry all this data.

YoshiKong (talk · edits) 05:29, 2 December 2013 (UTC)

Honestly, I haven't a clue.--immewnity (talk) 13:01, 2 December 2013 (UTC)

NIWA / Main Page

Hey there! Not sure if you remember me, but I joined a long while back looking for Nookipedia images. Two things:

  • Would you be interested in PidgiWiki joining NIWA? I know you mentioned previous problems between you and Bulbapedia, but hopefully that won't interfere. I'd be more than happy to propose membership to the rest of the NIWA staff; I think you'd be a great fit.
  • I also remember proposing a main page update here; dunno if you wanted to go anywhere with that.

Thanks! ~SuperHamster Talk 00:08, 9 June 2014 (UTC)

Of course I remember you! Yes, I would love for PidgiWiki to be part of NIWA - I sent in an application request a while back but never heard back. As far as the main page update... I honestly just haven't had time. At the moment, I'm in the hospital, if that gives you any indication of how crazy life has been! :P Glad to see you're still hanging around! --immewnity (talk) 00:11, 9 June 2014 (UTC)

DKC GBA Trilogy and DKC GBC Progress

Just curious, but how is progress? I won't try to bug you. I'm just curious is all. :) Gaz (talk) 22:51, 2 October 2014 (UTC)

Two months later. I see you're uploading tons of Pikmin images. Will you do the DK images next? Gaz (talk) 23:16, 8 December 2014 (UTC)
No worries; I uploaded the Pikmin stuff because I found a whole bunch unexpectedly. I finally got everything onto a portable hard drive, so they can get uploaded a lot more easily. Tomorrow I plan on going through the DKC games and getting the art together (I found a backup of Nintendo UK's site). Old Nintendo Sites

Hi, Immewnity. I was wondering if you can help me track down the old Nintendo websites. I like to preserve them for everyone. Do you have any contacts that can help out? I'm currently searching for donkeykong64.com's archives. Sure the Wayback Machine has it, but Google Search techniques might not be enough to track the missing files.

I would appreciate help, thank you. I know you don't have access to old Nintendo sites, but I would absolutely LOVE it if I can get help on this project.

I've already hosted my collection of Nintendo sites (DK-related) here: http://www.dkc-atlas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=1861.

Please try and see what you and your friends can do to help. :) Gaz (talk) 17:50, 4 October 2014 (UTC)

Ayee,, I highly doubt there's much help here. Buuuut, I do have some artwork about to be uploaded! :) --immewnity (talk) 00:58, 6 October 2014 (UTC)
Aww... :( Do you appreciate my efforts though? May I also request artwork for two other games as well afterward? Thanks. I believe use is okay on other sites, right? I don't see a problem, after all. I'd love an answer to the two questions. :) Gaz (talk) 01:30, 6 October 2014 (UTC)
I never said it wasn't a bad idea - it's definitely a great project to undertake! There's just not a whole lot of resources to go off of. Looking around older FTP servers may help.
Of course! You can always request artwork for games. It just may take a while to get to :P.
Artwork can be used on other sites, but we ask that image embedded hotlinks aren't done for two reasons. One, it takes up our bandwidth. Two, file names can change rapidly.--immewnity (talk) 01:40, 6 October 2014 (UTC)
I see that you took press images from DK Vine. Are there perhaps higher quality renders from Nintendo's press sites? The official press sites would be the ones that I would shoot for. Gaz (talk) 01:44, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
Yes, DK Vine just had a bunch that the press sites didn't. I'm also nowhere near done with everything from DK Vine, I just don't have the time/energy to get them done in a timely manner. These will be my focus for now, though.--immewnity (talk) 01:54, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
Sorry for asking these questions. I am just curious. I just wondered what was with the lack of uploads since Dumb Drum's render. I had this inner feeling that you might have forgot because of your personal life. Anyway, are the DK Vine renders unofficial? Some look edited. I think I was told that PidgiWiki is about official renders, but some look official to me. Gaz (talk) 02:47, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
Dumb Drum was the last I got to at the moment, yes. It's partially personal stuff and partially slow computers causing the delay.
Many of the DK Vine renders seem to be touched up from scans. PidgiWiki aims to get the best possible versions of artwork. If that means scans or nothing, we'll go with scans. If someone finds better versions, they're reuploaded (this happened with Super Mario 64).--immewnity (talk) 02:54, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
Getting back to the old Nintendo sites, do you think that some Nintendo employees have backups of it? I once tried to email a guy [Seth Lincoln, (http://createenv.com)] who states that he helped design DKC2 GBA's site, but he never replied... I tried to see if he had the site contents. :( I only hope I'll have a childhood site come back some day... :)

UPDATE: I re-emailed him to see if he had the files, but he said no. I'm still talking to him. Here's the email he sent:

Hi

Sorry, I looked but don't have the files anymore. Even if I did you'd probably need Flash (not the plugin, the full program) to republish and assemble all the files…

Thanks,

-Seth

I'll keep you informed. :)

Gaz (talk) 18:39, 10 October 2014 (UTC)

Immewnity, can you please also include Donkey Kong 64 and Diddy Kong Racing & Diddy Kong Racing DS renders as a part of my request? Thanks.

In total:

  • Donkey Kong Country (SNES, GBC, GBA)
  • Donkey Kong Country 2 (SNES, GBA)
  • Donkey Kong Country 3 (SNES, GBA)
  • Donkey Kong Land series
  • Diddy Kong Racing (N64, DS)
  • Donkey Kong 64

Gaz (talk) 00:37, 24 October 2014 (UTC)

I'll definitely put those at top priority.--immewnity (talk) 22:13, 24 October 2014 (UTC)
So are you willing to have more games added to my request list? Also please be on the lookout for Donkey Kong Land renders. I added them to the list. Gaz (talk) 23:32, 24 October 2014 (UTC)
All that the request list is right now is things of higher priority to me. Ultimately, I wish to have stuff from all these games, so I'm just trying to get to these first.--immewnity (talk) 14:53, 25 October 2014 (UTC)
I'm wondering how progress is going. I have a few statements/questions:
  1. May I please also have duplicate renders of different sources & quality to make the collection look nicer (and I like nostalgic JPG images with white backgrounds & archiving about everything for some odd reason). I hope you understand. :) The lower quality renders can be in ZIP files or something. To easier download all of the renders, maybe all renders should be in a ZIP file & the highest quality ones also uploaded.
  2. Did you say in your previous comment that you're on work of all of these games in the list? I didn't quite catch what you said.

I'm not trying to sound greedy. I just like big, complete collections. I hope you don't mind my request. Gaz (talk) 16:44, 4 November 2014 (UTC)

My main issue right now is that most of my files are on a server at home, and I'm currently off at school. Winter break starts at the end of November, so I should be able to get these done then.
I've been trying to figure out the best way to handle different versions of the same piece of artwork. I never thought of having different versions in a ZIP. That might work. I'll have to hold off on this for a couple months, unfortunately, as we're running out of space on our current server (96% capacity) and won't be able to upgrade for a couple months.--immewnity (talk) 16:52, 4 November 2014 (UTC)
You will fulfill the aforementioned game requests, right (bullet list above)? I didn't quite hear you say that you will. And thanks for your help. :) Gaz (talk) 17:31, 4 November 2014 (UTC)
No guarantees, but I will do my best. Realize that there are images that have been needing to be uploaded since 2011. Artwork for the games you listed are being prioritized, though. Also, with games at this age, most of the art doesn't come from press sites, but from other public websites, so you don't have to wait for me to upload them - just use Google search (I like to take whatever quality of art I find and put it through Google Image reverse search).--immewnity (talk) 01:16, 5 November 2014 (UTC)

Recent Pokemon ORAS art + Character art question

Hey, i'm curious as to where you obtained all the recent high resolution Pokemon Omegaruby and Alpha Sapphire art you just uploaded. I have been waiting for the pokemon press site to update with it for a few days now, and when it did today, it didn't have any high resolution art, it was all pretty small.

So i'm curious as to where you got it from.

Also, I was reading through this page, and I saw the "RE: Character Art" section that YoshiKong started in response to the "Character Art" Section on his talk page. Reading it, it sounds to me like some content was lost here. How much was lost, was it all recovered, etc?

Also, I want to say thank you for setting up and hosting this repository for high res assets, it's very difficult to try to scrounge together and find stuff, and this site has been a huge help to me. Also, I was wondering if you would be interested in hosting Halo assets? I know that this is a primarily nintendo oriented site, but Halo press videos and redners and art tends to become very hard to find over time because the MS press site purges content pretty frequently.

I also have a question regarding videos. On the about page, it says video is currently hosted on youtube. Due to youtube's compression, that's not a very good long term solution to storing press videos, which usually have pretty good quality compared to what the companies release on youtube anyways. Are you guys planning on hosting videos on this site soon, and if so, do you guys still have the source videos from before you all uploaded them to youtube?MajoraZ (talk)

Hi,
First things first, welcome to PidgiWiki! Glad you found your way here.
Regarding the ORAS artwork, it comes from TPCi's American and European branches; the press site is only the European branches. The American release didn't talk about Mega Steelix, for example, so that's why our Mega Steelix art is small - it's from the press site.
The character artwork mentioned by YoshiKong is not in our possession, no. We have small thumbnails, but each image must be requested from Nintendo UK now (they were posted in the press site for a short while). Additionally, our access to the UK press site has been revoked because of our server's residence in the US, so that makes these ever harder to attain.
Branching out is something we look to do eventually, but don't have the resources for at the time.
Regarding the videos, we also don't have the resources for that right now. Most of the source videos are still on my unorganized personal server, so they have not been lost.--immewnity (talk) 22:36, 14 October 2014 (UTC)

Transparent image source lost?

Wait, you lost the source for retrieving transparent images? I read in the requests section. Do you have any more information on this matter? Gaz (talk) 00:20, 19 October 2014 (UTC)

We haven't had access to it for over a year, actually, but we have a backup of just about everything from before we lost access. Nintendo UK's press site, in case you were wondering.--immewnity (talk) 00:28, 19 October 2014 (UTC)
Do you have any Donkey Kong Country images from that backup? If so, I'd like them, please. You also might want to back up the content on archive.org or back it up on a Blu-ray DVD (those last for thirty years), preferably the M-Disc. By the way, how is progress? Gaz (talk) 20:23, 19 October 2014 (UTC)
I do and I'm working on getting them together. They're on an external hard drive that is not with me at the moment. So yes, it's backed up. No way I'm uploading 400GB onto Archive.org or splitting it across 16 discs. Progress is going as fast as I can when I have access to this drive. I know I'm not uploading these immediately, but I upload what I have access to at the moment when I have time and when I'm feeling okay enough.--immewnity (talk) 20:30, 19 October 2014 (UTC)

Upload description

Perhaps we should increase the height of the description input textbox on the upload page a bit to prevent the need of scrolling (involving the info template). It might make it slightly less confusing.

#wpUploadDescription{
       height:300px;
}

—★Pika3323 16:15, 16 November 2014 (UTC)

Will that work? I thought rows="numberhere" has to be set. I'll try it though.--immewnity (talk) 15:49, 17 November 2014 (UTC)
I tested it on The JCC the other day. Worked fine in chrome, and IE. Soooo, it probably works for everyone. If not, then they'll just see the old textbox size. Not too big of a deal! —★Pika3323 20:58, 17 November 2014 (UTC)
Implemented and seemingly working. BTW, if you want to see my work on a new main page from the ground up, see http://www.pidgi.net/newnew/ --immewnity (talk) 21:00, 17 November 2014 (UTC)
Is the link only being clickable in the bottom corner of each tile intentional? —★Pika3323 21:05, 17 November 2014 (UTC)
No, but I'm focusing on the actual layout and stuff right now. That's an easy fix. Trying to make it look nice on all devices ATM. Then it'll be figuring out the footer. Then I'll do the normal fixes and color things.--immewnity (talk) 21:07, 17 November 2014 (UTC)
Alright, well, it looks pretty nice so far! —★Pika3323 21:13, 17 November 2014 (UTC)

Press Site Question

Just a question, but does PidgiWiki share press site logins? I'm 99 percent sure it's a "no", but this question is more geared toward retrieving hidden, publicly accessible urls from press.nintendo.com, as I found a couple from my press kits.

And if it is a yes, I recommend you privately share a login, because I'm interested in their outdated kits, news reports & such. And I won't plagiarize.

Again, only a question. Don't take it personal. :)

Gaz (talk) 01:39, 19 November 2014 (UTC)

Press site logins are shared amongst staff only, sorry. What are the URLs you're trying to access? I'll see if I can get anything. Most of the old stuff is gone if it isn't part of the main site, but I can check for you. --immewnity (talk) 02:54, 19 November 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for telling me. :) I would like to have HTML copies of some old news stories before 2008, please. Here are some URL directories I've noticed:

I'd appreciate if you can check for the pre-2008 news articles, some GBA/GCN/N64/GBC content, and the aforementioned directories. Thanks. Gaz (talk) 03:09, 19 November 2014 (UTC)

Good news and bad news. Good news is that I'm sure there are files in those directories. Bad news is there's no document listing, so there's no way of finding anything in there.
Also, the object thing is how all files exist in the main part of the press site (and are now more than just four digits). I've been trying a way to bulk download through them, but I haven't found a way that preserves my session data.--immewnity (talk) 03:22, 19 November 2014 (UTC)
Try limiting your connection speed and have a concurrency of "1" (and use HTTrack, I recommend). And the stuff in the two former directories aren't password protected, luckily. It's a shame that you can't find the images. Please let me know when you've made progress. The files should probably be put in a ZIP file.

And how do you bulk download webpages with number identifiers in numerical order? Gaz (talk) 03:31, 19 November 2014 (UTC)

I've been using BitComet's bulk download feature, which allows for number pattern downloading - I really don't know any better way. HTTrack wouldn't really make sense in this case, because I'm not following links on a page, I'm having to create them (something BitComet does).
If any links to the files inside those directories surface, I might be able to figure out the URL scheme. But until then... yeah.
The files will probably go into a new PidgiNet private FTP (which I'm trying to find a read-only access way for you to see), but I might be able to share them in a ZIP with you.--immewnity (talk) 03:58, 19 November 2014 (UTC)
I ended up figuring out that DownThemAll! for Firefox also permits bulk download with masking, so I'm 56% done with that download. Nothing like downloading 45,000 files!--immewnity (talk) 16:32, 19 November 2014 (UTC)
How are you going to share the files? *drools* Gaz (talk) 00:15, 20 November 2014 (UTC)
Not sure. Download just finished and is over 7GB.--immewnity (talk) 00:19, 20 November 2014 (UTC)
Gee, I hope you're not going to get in trouble. I used mega.co.nz to host a ZIP file once. You can get 50 GB free storage there. Hope I helped. :) Do you agree with this idea? Gaz (talk) 01:27, 20 November 2014 (UTC)
I'll see what I can do.--immewnity (talk) 01:34, 20 November 2014 (UTC)
Try this.--immewnity (talk) 16:11, 20 November 2014 (UTC)
Thanks so much! :) Gaz (talk) 16:56, 20 November 2014 (UTC)
Let me know when you finished downloading so I can remove it from the server.--immewnity (talk) 17:36, 20 November 2014 (UTC)
Will do. I've almost downloaded 4.5 GB of it. Do I have your permission to re-host it on a file sharing site? Gaz (talk) 17:50, 20 November 2014 (UTC)
Yes, go ahead. I had issues with MEGA uploading it from my external hard drive.--immewnity (talk) 17:51, 20 November 2014 (UTC)
Okay, I finished downloading the entire thing. Dang, that's a good crawl. I'm going to be preserving this for a long, long time. :) Gaz (talk) 18:41, 20 November 2014 (UTC)

Hey

Once again, thanks for the stuff from press.nintendo.com. Much appreciated. :) Can you please check for anything E3 2001-related on the site? I'd appreciate if you could. Thanks. I am specifically thinking of these games:

  • Diddy Kong Pilot
  • Donkey Kong Coconut Crackers
  • Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge
  • Sabre Wulf
  • Donkey Kong Racing
  • Kameo: Elements of Power

i.e. Rareware at E3 2001.

Gaz (talk) 22:42, 23 November 2014 (UTC)

That archive has literally everything I can possibly get from the website. I'm trying to acquire E3 press kits just as you are (I didn't have some of the ones you posted on Assembler Games, btw)--immewnity (talk) 02:26, 24 November 2014 (UTC)
Glad you liked the press kits. Someone was kind enough to give them to me. :) It's cool that you bumped into that thread. Are you deeply searching the web for press kits? I think that the E3 2000, E3 2002 and E3 2003 kits are the kits we're missing.

And is this press site lost in history?: http://web.archive.org/web/20010625110556/http://www.nintendo.com/media/ In the present it only gives a 404 error.

Gaz (talk) 02:33, 24 November 2014 (UTC)

I'm deeply searching the web for everything. If I do a search, I complete that search :D. I don't have all my stuff with me right now (tomorrow is my last day of classes, so I'll have access to my many failing hard drives soon - no worries, I'm backing them all up).
The old press site does seem to be gone forever, unfortunately. Only thing the Web Archive backed up was a GBA console image (which I uploaded earlier).--immewnity (talk) 02:39, 24 November 2014 (UTC)
There is a man on AssemblerGames named "kiff". He has a lot of press kits up for sale. What's unfortunate is that he will not back up the press kits (time constraints). He permits the buyer to, however.

Just wanted to share this with you. I didn't purchase any of the kits. Gaz (talk) 03:13, 24 November 2014 (UTC)

Fundraising goal :P --immewnity (talk) 17:40, 24 November 2014 (UTC)
Wait, you're raising funds to buy some of the press kits? It would be nice if you could share them if you get them. I believe that it's nice to share these things. :) Gaz (talk) 02:01, 25 November 2014 (UTC)
Not yet, but there have been talks of it, yes. And of course I'd do that!--immewnity (talk) 03:10, 25 November 2014 (UTC)

My user avatar

How do I change my avatar? I can't find it in settings. AdamTheVictini (talk)

I wish I could use gravatar to change my avatar but that would require me messing up a lot more sites that use it. Can you set my avatar for me manually? You have access to the wiki admin UI. Please reply in this thread. AdamTheVictini (talk)

As of right now, unfortunately not. There's no built-in support for avatars in MediaWiki, the software that powers PidgiWiki. I'll look into ways to support custom avatars, though.--immewnity (talk) 01:32, 25 January 2015 (UTC)

Then please change my username to AdamTheChespin. AdamTheVictini (talk) 18:12, 5 February 2015 (UTC)

I've changed your username. Also, regarding the avatars, I'm experimenting with an extension that might be able to provide avatars. It does a lot more changes, though, so it isn't ideal, but I'll keep you informed.--immewnity (talk) 18:27, 5 February 2015 (UTC)
Thanks! AdamTheChespin (talk) 19:19, 5 February 2015 (UTC)

Hi

It's been a bit, hasn't it? Well, I started a topic on AssemblerGames about the Nintendo VIP 24:7 downloads that were taken off the site, but you can only get them through NZB or showing a ROM forum community your tracker stats to prove that you help others download torrents. Discussion is over here. Gaz (talk) 19:24, 25 February 2015 (UTC)

Shoot me an email, I've got something for ya. (Go to the sidebar, click "Email this user" under Tools).--immewnity (talk) 00:22, 26 February 2015 (UTC)
I cannot; it only gives me a permissions error saying that I need to be a user in order to do. The thing is that I am a user and I already email confirmed myself. Image link.

You can always email me first, if you'd like. I already said that I just entered my email information. Gaz (talk) 02:36, 26 February 2015 (UTC)

Wow!

Thanks for uploading all of the Super Mario Sunshine artwork images. :D Are there any .BMP or .PNG-format screenshots of the game on a Nintendo press site? Gaz (talk) 22:17, 2 March 2015 (UTC)

No problem! I still think I have some on a hard drive backup that I haven't been able to restore - I think it got corrupted :(. Anyways, yes, there are some screenshots, but they're JPG.--immewnity (talk) 01:27, 3 March 2015 (UTC)
Wow, that stinks. So one of your hard drives had .BMP/.PNG images of Super Mario Sunshine titles that could not be restored? By the way, do you archive Nintendo material? If so, for how long have you been doing it? I'm just curious is all.
Also, what really irritates me is that most of the images on Nintendo's former press site (http://web.archive.org/web/20010625110556/http://www.nintendo.com/media/) are broken. I don't believe you can get access to that press site. ;-; Gaz (talk) 04:16, 3 March 2015 (UTC)
I meant that I thought I had more Sunshine artwork there. I found theme elsewhere though, and uploaded them!
I try downloading everything I can and not deleting them until I upload them here. I've been doing that (on and off) for the past three to five years.
That site's unfortunately gone to the internet dust pile. Just fragments remain :/ --immewnity (talk) 04:23, 3 March 2015 (UTC)
I've been trying to find a good way to archive this: http://vgaa.emulationzone.org/dir/index.php?currDir=. It's essentially a PidgiWiki-type project that has gone into oblivion.--immewnity (talk) 04:35, 3 March 2015 (UTC)
Well, you can access an older part of the site on the Wayback Machine. Entering "if_" after the timestamp in a Wayback url (layout: web.archive.org/web/dategoeshereif_/url) allows you to access a url on there without the Wayback code (except for inbound site links).

With the "if_" in the url, try to use wget to download the site (in Wayback) with Wget (and then organize the folders and files afterward to be in the exact same directories as online; I haven't tested this yet, so I won't know the outcome).

Also, artwork thumbnails you see on the site are under a folder called "thumbs". If you open that image in a tab and remove "/thumbs/" from a url, you can look at the full-size image. Here's an example (hover over the links to compare the urls):

If you need any more information on the Wayback Machine, Wikipedia has an article on how to use it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Using_the_Wayback_Machine.

I hope this information is useful to you. Gaz (talk) 05:01, 3 March 2015 (UTC)
