Re: Image transparency

Hey Gaz! I saw your question on Da braviary's talk page, and I'm pretty sure I can answer your question, or at least sort of. If you're talking about modifying an image to give it transparency and upload it onto PidgiWiki, I'd politely ask you not to. Why? PidgiWiki is a collection of video game artwork that aims to get the most original versions of images as possible. This means the least amount of editing done. While there might be a version of an image without a background, if we don't have that version, we use the best we have and don't try to modify it.

On the flip side, if you just meant in general and not for upload to PidgiWiki, that's a completely different story. I use Paint.NET as my main image editor, as does Da braviary, so I don't know if either of us can give you a GIMP tutorial. Thank you!--immewnity (talk) 03:09, 15 August 2014 (UTC)

Well could you please tell me how to do it in Paint.NET then? I also was wondering how YoshiKong found these transparent DK Jungle Beat artwork images, because I didn't know transparency was supported on images in 2004. I'd like it if you could give me information on both. Thanks. Gaz (talk) 19:12, 15 August 2014 (UTC)
With Paint.NET, it's all about managing the tolerance of the Magic Wand tool. I also like using a plugin called AA's Assistant.
Regarding the image YoshiKong uploaded, I think those came from a press site, though they may have been from a press CD. We have some images with transparency support from at least 1998, but transparent images definitely existed well before then.--immewnity (talk) 23:09, 15 August 2014 (UTC)

High-resolution images

What images are you referring to? We've got many images and many sources.--immewnity (talk) 21:29, 26 September 2014 (UTC)

I mean: "How do I locate these TIFF files online or these transparent high quality images? Any advice? Gaz (talk) 22:40, 26 September 2014 (UTC)
You say "these TIFF files". Which TIFF files? "these transparent high quality images" - which ones?
We have a lot of sources, ranging from press CDs to press sites to contacts... a whole lot. We're trying to compile them all into one location, PidgiWiki. If there's something you're looking for and can't find, you can send in a request, and we'll exhaust our resources looking for it.--immewnity (talk) 21:08, 28 September 2014 (UTC)
What about beta screenshots? Those would be excellent. And you answered my TIFF question. Gaz (talk) 19:31, 29 September 2014 (UTC)
Screenshots is something that we've thought about and at one time did, but it got too confusing. It's definitely something we'd like to look at again, though; I'll take a look and see if there's a way to figure it out. Glad that got answered.--immewnity (talk) 20:42, 29 September 2014 (UTC)
You will not forget about the DKC GBA trilogy and DKC GBC assets request, right? Oh, and the screenshot requests will be really nice. Gaz (talk) 23:22, 30 September 2014 (UTC)
I've got them downloaded and am working on figuring out names right now. Screenshots are going to be a bit longer to implement just because rules will take a while to figure out, but working on that too.--immewnity (talk) 01:03, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

DKC images

I use different computers, so I can't always get them uploaded when I have free time depending on which one I'm on. I've found artwork from the GBA ports, but none from the GBC port. These are just from press sites, though, so I haven't used my Doctorate in Google Search just yet. I'm also not familiar enough with the Donkey Kong series to know which artwork is from the original and which is specific to the GBA release, so I'll probably try and find game guides for each game to compare.

In addition, I'll have to compare and see what artwork is already on the wiki (see Category:Donkey Kong Country, Category:Donkey Kong Country 2, Category:Donkey Kong Country 3, and Category:Donkey Kong Country series) and then upload or replace accordingly.

Remember, too, if you have any artwork, feel free to upload it!--immewnity (talk) 22:58, 2 October 2014 (UTC)

Do you have any suggestions on how to do doctorate searching in Google Search? By the way, I know how to, but I just want advice. How do I get a login for the NoE press site? The last question isn't important, but I decided to ask in any case. Gaz (talk) 23:23, 2 October 2014 (UTC)
Hahaha, the "Doctorate in Google Search" bit was a joke - essentially that I could major in internet searching with how often I have to do it and how in-depth I go. :P Just be specific and use filtering to find what you need is key.
Truth be told, I don't remember how our registration process worked with NoE. I don't remember if we applied and got approved right away, or if we had to do contact someone as well. But first and foremost, if you would be considered a qualified press member that caters to their region, fill our their form.--immewnity (talk) 00:23, 3 October 2014 (UTC)
Just thought you'd like an update. I recently had to switch computers, so I'm still moving files over. I won't get to uploading non-recent stuff for a little while. Until then, here's the DKC images that I have, at least some of them. I'll add more once I get those other files transferred over.--immewnity (talk) 14:00, 15 October 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for informing me. I just thought that you gave up on pursuing the project and was about to ask what happened. Thanks for the images, mate. :) Gaz (talk) 15:18, 17 October 2014 (UTC)
I rarely give up, I just... take a long time :P --immewnity (talk) 22:00, 17 October 2014 (UTC)

Figuring out what games each piece of art is for

So, I've got a few pieces of art that are in folders for different games (Enguarde is in both DKC1 and DKC3, Squawks in both DKC2 and DKC3, etc). Unfortunately, the press sites aren't the most reliable, so what would be the best way to figure out which game they originated in?--immewnity (talk) 02:47, 9 December 2014 (UTC)

Okay, everything from the press sites are uploaded, I believe. The rest can be found online (like DK Vine that I was uploading things from), and I'll upload them when I can. Else, all the files I have access to of DKC, you now have.--immewnity (talk) 03:11, 9 December 2014 (UTC)
Thanks. The best way to figure out their game origin is by searching for similar images of a certain artwork via Google, Donkey Kong Wiki, or Super Mario Wiki. Gaz (talk) 04:12, 9 December 2014 (UTC)

Send me an email

I've got somethin' for ya.--immewnity (talk) 00:48, 26 February 2015 (UTC)

Ooohh, a surprise. Don't tell what it is (if not the DK render), I want to feel the excitement. ;) Gaz (talk) 02:02, 26 February 2015 (UTC)

RE: 3 Patrons, Good Job

I didn't really promote the Patreon much, so it was more people just finding it from Twitter or the site itself. As far as screenshots... sorry if I told you that. I've been back and forth between screenshots, but as time goes on, PidgiWiki's reach expands, so right now, basically anything that isn't fan work goes. If there was a "changing point", it would probably have been April 26, 2015, when I added in "purpose" to the infobox, which made a lot of things easier.--immewnity (talk) 15:57, 2 March 2016 (UTC)

RE: Linking to press sites

The press sites are meant to be only for the press, not for the general consumer. Notably, one company once told me that they were having a big issue where non-press were signing up for the press sites, and there were so many "bad" applications that they had to just stop allowing applications. If we put just "Nintendo of America", press who want to find the asset on the press site still know which one to go to. --immewnity (talk) 14:54, 7 March 2016 (UTC)

I know, sorry about that with Skype - I've been so crazy busy lately with school, and when I'm not, it's with computer issues or something else that pops up. I don't yet know if I'll be working over spring break, but even if I am, I won't have homework to worry about after work. My spring break is the week before Easter (the week of the 21st).
And I've been asked specifically not to link for some press sites, which is why I try to at least put the name of the branch from where the files came. Sometimes I forget to add the source, and sometimes I lost track of the source. --immewnity (talk) 02:21, 8 March 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for the Links On Your Userpage

You're welcome. Is there anything in particular you want me to check if I have on my hard drive? BTW, I assume all the stuff you have is uploaded to the assemblergames thread or archive.org? --Hiccup (talk) 18:44, 2 April 2016 (UTC)

Here is a listing of everything in my folder. --Hiccup (talk) 13:09, 3 April 2016 (UTC)
What things didn't you reupload? Also, that Beta.wmv is just an old video I made with low-quality "beta" screenshots. --Hiccup (talk) 09:34, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
You mean the "E3 2009 Nintendo Online Press Kit"? I dunno where I got that from. It only has the DS stuff for some reason, no Wii stuff. You still want it? --Hiccup (talk) 20:59, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
No, but there is some E3 2011 stuff on the FTP. --Hiccup (talk) 17:59, 9 April 2016 (UTC)

RE: The Betabase screenshots

Yes, absolutely remove them from here once they're on The Betabase.--immewnity (talk) 03:50, 14 October 2016 (UTC)

The mass screenshot deletion

You did only delete ones that were on the betabase, right? :P --Hiccup (talk) 12:46, 23 October 2016 (UTC)

I did the redirects and the ones you tagged for deletion. :) Gaz (talk) 15:29, 23 October 2016 (UTC)
Okay, good. BTW, I sent you a PM on assemblergames. --Hiccup (talk) 15:52, 23 October 2016 (UTC)

Are you still active here?

Do you remember the sources of the press cds on your assembler game thread that were just labelled "not by me"? --Hiccup (talk) 16:32, 29 April 2018 (UTC)
