===Basic Naming===

For the majority of artwork, name files as <code>Character/Artwork Name - Game/Movie/Set/Issue name.{{tt|ext|Extension, such as png or jpg}}</code>, i.e. <code>Xerneas - Pokémon X and Y.jpg.jpg</code> or <code>Pikachu - Pokémon Battle Revolution.png</code>. If no game is available, use the artist.

===language===

For images with language texts, put the two-letter language code at the end of the name, i.e. <code>Logo JP - Pokemon Y.jpg</code> or <code>Logo EN - Pokemon Y.png</code> for the Japanese or English logo of Pokémon Y. The language codes to be used are ISO 639-1 codes, listed [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ISO_639-1_codes here].

===Box===

For boxes put the two-letter region code at the end of the name, i.e. <code>Box UK - Paper Mario Sticker Star.jpg</code> or <code>Box NA - Paper Mario Sticker Star.png</code> for the United Kingdome or North American box of Paper Mario Sticker Star.

===Alternate and Specific Alternate artwork===

If there are two versions of a piece of artwork, add "(alt)" to the end of the name, i.e. <code>Monty Mole (alt) - New Super Mario Bros U.png</code>. If there are multiple alternate versions, add "(alt #)" to the end. Instead of using "(alt 1)", however, just use "(alt)". Use a similar naming for artwork with specific alternate versions, such as <code>Ditto (beta) - Pokémon Red and Green</code>.

===Form/Forme artwork===

As evidenced by the spelling in the title, the naming of Forms or Formes have been debated throughout the fandom, with criteria for each name still under scrutiny. To avoid any of this fighting here, PidgiWiki will avoid using Form of Forme at all, so put the form name in parentheses directly after the Pokémon name, i.e. <code>Tornadus (Therian) - Black 2 and White 2.png</code>.

TCG cards are to be named in the <code>SetCode CardNo. LanguageCode</code>, i.e. <code>HGSS4 26 FR.jpg</code>. Set codes are formatted per TPCi guidelines, with the series code (EX, DP, PL, HGSS, COL, BW) followed by the set number. Currently, no guidelines are set for cards released prior to EX Ruby & Sapphire; we'll get over that bridge when we reach it.

Here at PidgiWiki, we want all files uploaded to be easily accessible to anyone who wants to access them. This accessibility means that we must categorize and name all files with the same patterns. This page will aid in naming any files uploaded.

General rules

There are a number of rules that must be put in place for general usage.

Basic naming

File:Xerneas - Pokemon X and Y.jpg

As you have (hopefully) guessed by reading this page, PidgiWiki is currently targeted to English-speaking audiences. While no other languages have been announced, the MediaWiki software has a built-in language switcher accessible via the preferences page. However, the default language is currently English, meaning that files must be named in English.

For the majority of artwork, name files as Subject name - Game/Movie/Set/Issue name.ext, e.g. Xerneas - Pokemon X and Y.jpg or Pikachu - Pokemon Battle Revolution.png. If no game is available, use the artist.

Accents

DO NOT use accents (e.g. é, è, etc.) in page titles. This messes the backend up when trying to move files.

Files in another language

File:Logo JP - Pokemon Y.jpg

For images with language texts, put the two-letter language code at the end of the name, e.g. Logo JP - Pokemon Y.jpg or Logo EN - Pokemon Y.png for the Japanese and English logos of Pokémon Y, respectively. The language codes to be used are ISO 639-1 codes, listed here.

Box and package images

File:Box UK - Paper Mario Sticker Star.jpg

For box and package images, put the two-letter region code at the end of the name, e.g. Box UK - Paper Mario Sticker Star.jpg or Box NA - Paper Mario Sticker Star.png for the box images of Paper Mario Sticker Star in the United Kingdom and in North America, respectively.

Alternate artwork

File:Monty Mole (alt) - New Super Mario Bros U.png

If there are two versions of a piece of artwork, add "(alt)" to the end of the name, e.g. Monty Mole (alt) - New Super Mario Bros U.png. If there are multiple alternate versions, add "(alt #)" to the end. Instead of using "(alt 1)", however, just use "(alt)". Use a similar naming for artwork with specific alternate versions, such as Ditto (beta) - Pokémon Red and Green.jpg.

Forms/Formes

File:Tornadus (Therian) - Black 2 and White 2.png

As evidenced by the spelling in the title, the naming of forms or formes have been debated, with criteria for each name still under scrutiny. To avoid any of this fighting here, PidgiWiki will avoid using "form" of "forme" at all, so put the form/forme name in parentheses directly after the Pokémon name, e.g. Tornadus (Therian) - Black 2 and White 2.png.

TCG cards

File:HGSS4 FR 2.jpg

TCG cards are to be named in the SetCode CardNo. LanguageCode, e.g. HGSS4 FR 2.jpg. Set codes are formatted per TPCi guidelines, with the series code (EX, DP, PL, HGSS, COL, BW) followed by the set number. Currently, no guidelines are set for cards released prior to EX Ruby & Sapphire; we'll get over that bridge when we reach it.
